Twelve Masterful Painted Porcelain Table-Screens by Guo Jun Yu. Exhibition August 26-28 Melbourne. 2021

Guo Jun Yu was born 12 September 1956 in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China. With the influence of his grandmother, he developed a love of Chinese ceramics, Chinese paintings and calligraphy. In his 20’s, Guo Jun was tutored by Mr. Yanshao Lu the professional Chinese painting artist. With the reform and opening up of the Chinese economy, he was one of the first few who had earned a good living with his work. He joined a tide of Chinese venturing going abroad in the 1980’s. He arrived in Sydney Australia on 20th December 1989. After one year he established a company with his best friend Mr Wen Li on 28 July 1990. In his second year of arrival. He established a second workshop  in Melbourne and another the year later in Brisbane.

With his continuing endeavours he established a company in Ningbo City, China. With his retirement from his business he has never stopped his creative output and through the encouragement of mentors Mr Pusheng Zhang and Mr Yunpeng Huang he has continued his ceramic painting practice. His work pays homage to the classical painting tradition in China, as well as the traditional skills of using porcelain as a base for painting, mastered over multiple centuries by the Chinese.These table screens are however distinctly contemporary and highly individual.

Traditionally placed on the scholar’s table near a window, these screens were once used to protect the painter’s table from the breeze and they are a much revered and uniquely Chinese creation. Over centuries they have been crafted in the finest materials such as jade, the much prized hardwood Zitan and mounted in all manner of precious materials.

This is the first gallery exhibition of Guo Jun Yu’s work in Australia.

    虞国钧是一位活跃在澳洲悉尼的陶瓷,绘画,书法的爱好者,他出生在中国宁波,从小受祖辈的熏陶,喜欢古玩,书画。年轻时勤奋好学,注重学习山水工笔画,曾得到陆俨少大师的指导,因此虞国钧传承了老一辈艺术家们的艺术基因。32年前,虞国钧从中国来到了澳洲悉尼,暂时放下了他的艺术梦想,打拼在悉尼的商海,经过20多年的奋斗形成逐步的财富积累才有如今他可以重拾年轻时的梦想。近年来虞国钧注重于秞上新彩,粉彩及釉下青花。一直奔走于悉尼与景德镇之间,得到景德镇青花大师黄云鹏手把手的指导,同时也得到景德镇各类工艺大师的帮助。经过他的努力,在悉尼能独立完成青花绘画,吹釉,烧窑一系列工艺,一气呵成,制成一幅幅精美的青花瓷板作品。

         虞国钧的作品注重中华传统文化的继承和发扬。自古中国文人很讲究传统文化的浸淫和传承。中国瓷器和中国绘画皆莫例外。他对中国画有很深的研究,临摹了大量的画本和画录,他倾倒于八大山人,追摹于石涛,醉心于黄宾虹,白石老人,陆俨少。瓷画上则以王步,汪野亭。黄云鹏笔法为师,真是师傅领进门,勤奋靠自己,坚实的基础也为他后来的青花艺术开辟了广阔的天地,他把学来的绘画艺术巧妙运用兼工带写,大胆落墨,游刃于坯胎瓷板之上,把青花艺术发扬到极致,青花瓷的魅力是在单色中又墨分五色,尽显浓淡枯湿。装饰性和扩张性是无与伦比的。历来青花艺术家更注重的是它的写意性。以洒脱自由,出神的形象结合诗与画的完美统一,从而创造出诗化一般的意境。青花瓷的制作过程难度较大,往往陶瓷艺术家借青花瓷来抒发自己的情感,表达作者的追求,让众人在联想中产生共鸣,这就是青花艺术的真谛。

      瓷器是火的艺术,景德镇有一句话——瓷器全仗最后一把火,也就是说画的再好最后还是靠一把火。为了达到景德镇青花瓷的要求,青,翠,蓝,他连续5年每年2次去景德镇专门学习研究烧窑技术。景德镇的烧窑工艺是他们祖传的绝活,不会轻易传授与他人,他在一次次的失败吸取经验,并投入更好设备(窑炉)。真所谓老天不负苦心人,最后烧制的瓷板连景德镇大师也刮目相看,交口称赞。要知道在海外制作青花瓷板的一系列绘画,上釉,烧制,并由他一人完成着实不易。目前在海外能烧制景德镇青花的只有他虞国钧一人。青花瓷虽然是单色瓷,但产生的魅力有如蓝天包容着白云一样,那么协调,清澈,永不变色。艺术的追求永无止境,我们期待的在瓷器世界里开创出新的领域。
