The End of an Era for Helene Antiques of High Street Armadale in Melbourne

Helene Antiques has been a fixture on High street for a very long time and Helene herself has been dealing in antiques for some 39 years. In her early days she imported containers from the UK and France, where she was very well-known and her stock has always included a very wide and eclectic mix of antiques, designer pieces as well as the occasional rarity, such as the featured pair of Irish bog-yew wood chairs by Arthur Jones Of Dublin. Jones' furniture is rarely if ever seen in Australia, but in Europe when it turns up it fetches dizzy prices. His designs were always eccentric, often richly carved and incorporating anthropomorphic features, such as the animal-form legs on these chairs. There will be a view days for those that want to see pieces in person on Saturday 22 July, the day before the auction closes and everything is viewable and bid-able now on this website under current auctions.
